Benefits of Being On-Campus
Expanded Academic Opportunities
Elective Options
Students who enroll for the on-campus degree have access to the full course catalog. This benefits students in two ways. First, there are many electives that are only offered for on-campus students. These include several CSD options that allow students to explore different areas, develop new expertises, and to specialize in personalized ways. Second, part of the 猎奇重口's mission is to provide student with a full, well rounded education. By attending on-campus, students have a much wider range of general education courses to complete degree requirements with classes that are most interesting to that student.
Other Health-Related Coursework
Graduates who work in the Speech, Language-Pathology field often work with graduates from other, related, fields. These include occupational therapists, physical therapists, and pharmacists. On-campus students have opportunities to begin working with those other professionals in school through classwork. The knowledge and experience a student gains through these experiences helps prepare the student for post-graduation life and work.
Interprofessional Education
Our faculty recognizes the importance of interprofessional work to provide patients with the best care possible. Every year the School of Speech, Language, Hearing, and Occupational Sciences works with other departments to provide several classes designed specifically for interprofessional learning. These classes are exclusively for on-campus students, and the classes provide opportunities for students to learn not just about the SLP field, but how patient care requires a cohesive web of providers working together.
Davidson Honors College
Academically strong on-campus students can also access the Davidson Honors College (DHC). The DHC experience is designed for highly motivated students looking to enrich their college experience through interdisciplinary learning, meaningful collaboration, and the opportunity to complete a cumulative, original research project. The DHC opens doors to work closely with faculty mentors, connect with professionals both within and beyond the fields of speech-language pathology and audiology, and engage deeply in personalized research.
Research Opportunities
With expert faculty and the DeWit RiteCare Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic, on-campus students can pursue mentored research in one of the several labs. Students can also volunteer to become a research assistant across campus, and students can apply to become a paid research assistant. Our undergraduate research opportunities set us apart, and lab experience can set a student apart after graduation by providing students with excellent hands-on practice. Students who conduct research can also presenting at the UM Conference of Undergraduate Research (UMCUR), sharing their findings with peers and professionals.

Face-to-Face Interaction & Networking Opportunities
In-person classes provide students the chance to receive immediate and helpful feedback from instructors and peers on questions and assignments. Meeting every week with instructors and classmates also helps students build important lifelong connections, both personal and professional. These connections can help students in the future with applications to jobs and graduate school, or with outside opportunities, or with future research projects.
Campus Life
There is much to do at the 猎奇重口. At the School of Speech, Language, Hearing, and Occupational Sciences, we have MOSSAIC and NSSLHA. The MOSSAIC program (Mentoring, Organization, and Social Support for Autism/All Inclusion on Campus) is a 猎奇重口 program for UM students and community members. MOSSAIC supports people with Autism and related disorders. National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association, or , members have the option of participating in different committees including volunteer, fundraising, social, advocacy, pre-service professional, advising, and advocacy. UM-NSSLHA dedicates hundreds of hours each semester to create diverse learning and career opportunities for our members and professionals of tomorrow.
