Getting Started with LAR
Whether you're a new researcher or returning user, here's what you need to begin using the LAR facility.
Step 1: IACUC Protocol
- All research being performed must have an IACUC-approved protocol in place
- For new personnel, an amendment to be added to all applicable protocols must be submitted once training is completed.
Step 2: Complete Required Training
- Complete required online training through the CITI Program
- Complete Occupational Health Requirements
- For studies being conducted at the main campus or satellite facilities, walk-through training must be completed.
- Walk-through training is scheduled each Thursday at 2pm.
- Didactic Training: required annually. Training is required to maintain Griz Card access to animal facilities.
Step 3: Facility Access
- Access to LAR facilities is granted only after all training and occupational health and safety requirements are met (e.g., risk assessment, annual medical review, vaccine form, respiratory protection), and protocol/amendment approval is complete.
- IACUC Manager will notify the individual via email that Griz Card access has been granted to appropriate research facilities.
Step 4: Additional Training
- Hands-on training for refined handling techniques is required for all individuals utilizing mice in their research project(s).
- Specialized Techniques training can be arranged upon request.
