Interdisciplinary Graduate Program
The Graduate School invites you to explore graduate degrees that integrate knowledge, research, and training across multiple departments and disciplines. The Interdisciplinary Graduate Program empowers students to design academic pathways that align with their personal interests and professional goals, fostering innovation that transcends traditional academic boundaries.
Our Master of Interdisciplinary Studies (M.I.S.)—offered as both M.A. and M.S. options—and the Doctor of Interdisciplinary Studies (D.I.S.) provide formal structures for collaboration among departments. These degrees are especially valuable in emerging areas of research or in fields not currently represented by existing graduate programs. Students in these programs pursue innovative combinations of coursework to develop the expertise required for distinctive, cross-disciplinary research projects.
We are proud to be one of only a few universities in the nation offering both master’s and doctoral degrees in Interdisciplinary Studies.
If your research interests do not align neatly with an existing program, we encourage you to explore the links on this page for degree guidelines, application materials, and profiles of current students to see how you can create a path uniquely your own.
We look forward to working with you as you shape your interdisciplinary academic journey!
