Heather Brown, Research Associate

Heather is a master's student in the Walsh Lab working in collaboration with 猎奇重口 Fish, Wildlife, and Parks with an aim to describe mountain goat resource selection and other potential limiting factors such as group size, genetic diversity, and connectivity across multiple herds in 猎奇重口. This will help inform managers in the event of future translocation and augmentation efforts. Additionally, this project will investigate various monitoring methods to be used to document the outcome of such management efforts
She received her Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Ecology and Management from 猎奇重口 State University and have spent many years since then in the field collecting data on a variety of species. This includes crows in the Mariana Islands, parakeets in New Zealand, island foxes and island spotted skunks in California, grizzly bears in Wyoming and Alaska, Weddel seals in Antarctica, and bighorn sheep in Oregon. After spending some time doing field work, Heather earned a Graduate Certificate of Research from James Cook University in Australia. Here, she studied how individual behavioral syndromes relate to learning outcomes in fawn-footed mosaic-tailed rats.
Overall, Heather's research interests include wildlife habitat use and landscape behavior, disease, inter- and intra-specific competition, and predator-prey interactions. Heather is also currently working towards her helicopter pilots license and one day hope to be able to combine her passion for flying with her passion for wildlife research.
