Graduate Writing Support
The Writing Center offers year-round services to graduate and professional students from every program, division, and department across campus.
We support all written and oral communication projects, including coursework, theses, dissertations, grant proposals, application materials, conference presentations, or personal projects. We work with you at any stage, from brainstorming to reviewing a draft or practicing a presentation. Whatever your comfort level with writing or public speaking, we welcome you!
Support is available via one-on-one appointments, graduate writing groups, writing retreats, and writing workshops. Review the options below or refer to the lefthand menu bar to access our services. Please let us know if you have any trouble finding what you’re looking for!
Summer Programming: Write through summer!
Workshop: Plan your summer writing!
Monday, May 12th, 10am-12pm. Join us in-person for a and planning session to make a writing plan for the summer. Writing Center staff will lead a discussion about goal-setting and scheduling, followed by a chance to make your summer writing plan and take steps to put your plan into action! Register .
Weekly summer writing groups start May 19th
Mondays and Thursdays, 9:30am-12:30pm, May 19th through July 24th. The Writing Center will host to provide structure and support for graduate students working on long-term projects. Groups will meet in person in the Writing Center (Mansfield Library, Room 322) on Monday and Thursday, from 9:30am – 12:30pm. Students are welcome to attend one or both weekly sessions. Regular attendance is encouraged but we appreciate the challenges of summer scheduling. Come as often as you can and stay as long as you are able!
Sessions will begin with a brief check-in to set goals for the writing period followed by individual writing time. The session will conclude with a chance to reflect on progress made, identify goals for the week ahead, and articulate a plan for your next writing session. Professional consultants facilitate each group and students have the option to set up appointments for individualized feedback during the work period. Registration is encouraged! .
August one-day mini-retreats, 9am-2pm, dates TBD (stay tuned!)
We plan to offer 2 or 3 one-day on-campus retreats to help you end the summer strong and get a jump on fall semester. Stay tuned for details!
Individual Consultations
Through individual consultations with our professional tutors, we support all stages of your work on writing assignments, proposals, conference presentations, job applications, capstone projects, theses, and dissertations. You can select a 30 or 60-minute appointment; many graduate students elect to set up recurring appointments.

Writing Workshops
We offer graduate writing workshops each semester. Join us for informative, interactive workshops that address graduate-level writing concerns. Schedule and topics vary from semester to semester.

Writing Groups
Throughout the year we host multiple weekly accountability groups designed to help you structure your writing time, connect with other writers, generate momentum and reach your writing goals. At each session, a Writing Center staff member welcomes participants and invites you to briefly share writing goals. After a work period we’ll reconvene, share successes or challenges, and articulate next steps before moving on with our days. Writing Retreats
Jump Start is our four-day, writing intensive retreat for graduate students working on a research proposal, capstone project, professional paper, manuscript, thesis, or dissertation. We offer Jump Start during winter break and spring break. 2025-26 dates will be posted in August 2025.
Instructional Support
Are you teaching a writing course this year? Our professional staff can work with you on curriculum structure, writing assignments, and strategies for evaluating student writing. Invite us to come give a Writing Center orientation to your students, or to talk with them about writing in college. We’re here to help you help them write!
