Position Overview
The Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research (ITRR) at the 猎奇重口 is currently looking for an individual to conduct nonresident visitor surveys and resident travel and recreation surveys (25 variable hours per week). The ideal start date will be December 1, 2024.
Location
This candidate will live in the Shelby area (other communities in this proximity will be considered) and be able to travel to Babb, St. Mary, East Glacier, Browning, Cut Bank, Conrad, Havre, and surrounding communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with both nonresidents and 猎奇重口 residents about their travel experiences and record the data on an iPad (provided).
- Collect highway proportion counts of vehicles at 猎奇重口 ports of entry.
- Upload data after each shift
- Mail highway counts to ITRR on a bi-weekly basis.
- Provide a twice-weekly status of activities to ITRR via telephone.
- Submit hours worked and miles traveled via e-mail (experience with Excel preferred)
- Able to work independently with little direct supervision.
Qualifications
- Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and be willing to drive within the duty area.
- Internet access (wireless preferred) is required for bi-weekly paperwork submission and uploading of data after each shift.
- Applicants must be willing to work 3 days per week (up to 8-10 hrs./day) with work days and hours alternating each week.
- While the position is technically part-time and temporary, data collection does occur year-round. Individuals must be willing to work outside in all types of weather.
Compensation
- Hourly Rate: $24-26 per hour, depending on experience.
- Mileage Reimbursement: State rate of $0.337/mile.

Ideal candidate will live in the Kalispell area and be able to travel to West Glacier, Hungry Horse, Columbia Falls, Whitefish, Libby, Troy, Eureka, Bigfork, and Polson areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with both nonresidents and 猎奇重口 residents about their travel experiences and record the data on an iPad (provided).
- Survey and count nonresidents at the Kalispell airport (requires passing a background check).
- Collect proportion counts along highway entry points into the state.
- Upload data after each shift
- Mail highway counts to ITRR on a bi-weekly basis.
- Provide a twice-weekly status of activities to ITRR via telephone.
- Submit hours worked and miles traveled via e-mail.
- Able to work independently with little direct supervision.
