Dean Stone 2026
On April 10, we will award nearly $330,000 in scholarships at our annual Dean Stone banquet hosted at the downtown Florence Hotel. The event starts with a social hour from 5-6 p.m., dinner catered by the Silk Road from 6-7 p.m. and then the awards.
Each spring the School of Journalism celebrates its founder, Dean Arthur Stone, and its current students with an annual lecture and scholarship and awards banquet.
In 2026, Dean Stone events will be on Friday, April 10 and Monday, April 13.
On Friday, April 10, from 5-9 at the Florence Hotel in downtown Missoula, we will host the Dean Stone Awards Banquet to honor students and their outstanding work.
Tickets are available now. For students, the cost is $15 and non-students it is $30. The banquet will be catered by Silk Road and a cash bar will be available.

On Monday, April 13, Radiolab creator and MacArthur Fellow Jad Abumrad will deliver the Dean Stone lecture, in coordination with the President's Lecture Series. The event will occur at 7:30 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom.
Thanks to generous endowments and donor contributions, the school awarded nearly $330,000 in scholarships at last year's banquet.
In addition to the banquet, we feature a special public lecture in the week running up to the banquet.
Previous Dean Stone speakers have included Dean Baquet, executive editor of the New York Times; former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw; Judy Woodruff of PBS Newshour; Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Eli Sanders;The New Yorker magazine writer Adam Entous; New York Times staff writer and National Magazine Award-winner Nikole Hannah-Jones; and Chris Jones, editor-in-chief of National Geographic magazine.
