Annie Gowen is a correspondent for The Washington Post's National desk, covering the Midwest and rural America.
She was previously the India bureau chief from 2013 to 2018 and returned the region in 2023 to report for the Post's award-winning "The Human Limit," which examined the health impacts of climate change. Her from rural Pakistan was anthologized in the Best American Science and Nature Writing 2024.
In 2019, she and photographer Ricky Carioti spent a year on a Minnesota farm the impacts of Trump's first trade war for a series titled "One More Year on the Farm: A Family's Fight to Save their Land."
She was also part of a team whose coverage of the mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso won a Scripps Howard award and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News in 2020.
As The Post’s India bureau chief, she covered India, other South Asian nations and Myanmar. She twice won the Daniel Pearl Award for reporting on South Asia, and has reported for The Post from conflict zones in Ukraine, Iraq and Afghanistan.
