The seminar will focus on increasing understanding of health care professional roles, values, ethical perspectives, communication, and teamwork. Students will be grouped with interprofessional colleagues at tables with a facilitator. This event focuses on introducing students to interprofessional competencies through team-based activities.

Offered both fall and spring semester. This event includes an introduction to various approaches to incorporating equines into healthcare practices. There is a discussion of how providers can work interprofessionally in this setting to support patients.

Offered both fall and spring semester. After receiving training and establishing team roles, teams of 3-4 students work on interprofessional teams to provide free baseline concussion screenings and education to UM students.  

TeamSTEPPS (Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety) is an evidence-based framework for teaching a variety of tools to increase effective communication and reduce errors on healthcare teams.

Students train on developmental screening measures the administer screenings informally with toddlers and preschoolers at ASUM preschool under the direct supervision of faculty. 

This large-scale seminar begins with a panel of clinicians from a local organization presenting on real-life models and experiences of working on high-functioning healthcare teams. Students are grouped in-person or virtually in teams with other health professions to discuss the panel, engage in icebreaker activities, and eventually work through a stroke case across the continuum of care.  

Students engage in an afternoon of hands-on, facilitated simulation training related to emergency care in real-life trauma situations.

Courses for students interested in interprofessional topics are offered each semester.
