About
The Richard Drake Writing Award honors excellence in writing in the humanities in the College of Humanities and Sciences, and is awarded to one undergraduate and one graduate student per year. Papers focusing on history, literature, philosophy, religion, politics and the classics are considered. Papers are judged on the basis of excellence in writing, imagination in research, and force of argument.
Procedure
Please send your application to humanities.institute@mso.umt.edu. In the body of your email, please indicate the title of your paper, whether you are a graduate or undergraduate student, and for which class the paper was written (course number, course title, and instructor's name).
The application should include a letter of recommendation from the UM faculty member in whose class you wrote the paper. The letter of recommendation should include an overview of the assignment and a sense of what stood out in regards to the paper. Please have the faculty email the letter of recommendation to humanities.institute@mso.umt.edu by April 1.
