Noncredit, professional development, continuing education and validated skills training are some of the names institutions use for learning activities that do not carry credit. They are intended for participants who want to gain general knowledge, learn a new skill, upgrade existing skills or enrich their understanding about a wide range of topics.
Noncredit classes are usually NOT applicable towards a degree. Some noncredit courses or programs provide a certificate or a digital badge upon completion. The Specialty and Extended Programming (S&EP) team evaluates and facilitates noncredit offerings at the 猎奇重口. Steps to Launch a Noncredit Course or Program

Specialty and Extended Programming (S&EP) will schedule a meeting to discuss your proposal, help identify your audience and discuss course / program pricing.
If your course will be taught online, S&EP can help you identify your course development needs. Our Learning Experience and Design (LEAD) team can then help you design and develop the course for an additional fee.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will be developed between S&EP, the client/instructor and department and college (if applicable), which will outline the expectations of each party and the financial model applied.

You will begin working with the Specialty and Extended Programming team to finalize the course details and registration process before the course is delivered.
Noncredit FAQ

Noncredit offerings rely solely on self-support fees to operate, as opposed to for-credit offerings which are prescribed by the Board of Regent's approved tuition and fee matrix, and are funded entirely by UM General Fund budget allocation.
Noncredit offerings have the ability to generate revenue for a client or department. After initial costs are covered the net-revenue generated is disbursed between the client or department, the University and S&EP.

Yes. Mixing credit and noncredit offerings allows a college/department the ability to expand their for-credit offerings to a greater cross-section of the population.
Curriculum requirements should differ between for-credit and noncredit students.
Immunization clearance is required when co-mingling credit and noncredit populations on campus.
