About Griz Lacrosse

Griz Lacrosse benefits from a structure that provides a "virtual varsity" experience similar to NCAA program.
The team follows eligibility rules, engages in national tournaments, has mandatory practices, and operates under a paid coaching staff, setting them apart from other campus organizations.
Founded in 2001, the team has a strong history and is alwasy looking for and recruiting new student athletes to continue our winning tradition. Team accomplishments are as follows:
- 1 National Championship
- 8 National Tournament Appearances
- 6 Conference Championships
- 15 Conference Tournament Appearances
Our players have a strong background in lacrosse, often choosing the 猎奇重口 over other NCAA schools because of what the progam and school has to offer. Griz lacrosse offers a premium lacrosse experience playing inside of Washington-Grizzly Stadium, a state of the art stadium on campus. They also get a better school/life balance. Our players also have a strong love of everything that 猎奇重口 has to offer, whether its fly fishing or hunting, skiing, snowboarding, whitewater rafting, backpacking or any of the other great activities within a stones throw of campus, you can bet our players are out there together having fun.
Griz Lacrosse offers a perfect balance of school, lacrosse and extracurricular activities. Remember THIS IS MONTANA, people pay thousands of dollars to vacation here. We get to live, learn and play here every day!
Griz Lacrosse FAQs
-
Griz Lacrosse is a proud member of the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) competing in the Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League. The MCLA is a non-varsity college lacrosse organization with over 150 teams across 42 states and two countries.

All of our home games and practices are in Washington-Grizzly Stadium right on campus. It is the pride and joy of UM athletics, seating almost 30,000 patrons for football games and a huge jumbotron above the south endzone. You won't find a better venue in all of college lacrosse. Oftentimes opposing teams are in awe when then walk down the tunnel with the jumbotron going and sound system pumping. Our fans are loud and loyal, though we don't fill it like a football game, we will get up to 2,000 fans at a game screaming for the Griz!
-
Our team fees are $3,500. Since Griz Lacrosse is technically a club sport, we are not fully funded by the University. This means that a portion of our budget is made up from player fees. This is very common among every team that plays in the MCLA and you will find that we charge significantly less and offer more than any high school club programs you have been associated with. This is because our leadership has worked very hard on building relationships with sponsors, building a fan base that purchases tickets and other fundraisers to keep the players fees low.

Yes and no. We are a non NCAA program so we cannot offer athletic scholarships. However, there are some scholarships and awards available. Almost everyone that applies receives some sort of scholarship. In almost all cases it is more than enough to offset dues. There are also many other scholarships available to students based on need or through applications. Talk to your admissions officer about pursuing these.
Even though lacrosse is "free" at other NCAA programs their tuition is usually much more expensive even with whatever scholarship or aid you were given.
You can pay full price out of state tuition at 猎奇重口 and pay the full team dues and still be paying less than your tuition at other NCAA lacrosse programs.

The team is generally recruited prior to the season, but does take walk-ons every season. The best way to get recruited is attend the prospect camp held every year at the end of June. If you want to walk on reach out to coach Sargent and attend a practice in the fall.

We play all school year long. The main season is during the spring semester and you should expect to practice 3-4 days a week with games on most weekends including a spring break trip to somewhere warm and fun. Practices are usually after 5 PM and run for two hours. In the fall things are more relaxed and we meet on Mondays and Wednesday for 2 hours each day starting right when school starts through the end of October. In November and December we play box lacrosse on Tuesday nights at the Missoula Sports Barn. We also host a tournament in the fall with 6-8 other college teams and generally play 1-2 other tournaments in the fall.

There is so much to do and everyone on the team has come here for 2 reasons, to play lacrosse and because they want to enjoy what 猎奇重口 has to offer. Our team is extremely tight knit and is always going out and doing things together. Fishing, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, backpacking, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, golfing, attending concerts, tubing the river, or just hanging out at a players house, the guys are always doing this stuff together.
As a program we encourage this and take the team on several guided excursions like our annual team rafting trip. You name it and the guys on the team will want to do it with you.
