About Griz Hurling

Grizzly Hurling is the school club playing the sport of hurling.
Practices are open to all UM students and faculty. Practices are Sundays and Wednesdays from 5-7 at Dornblaser through May 11th. All are welcome; no experience necessary and gear is provided!
The team competes locally and against other universities and in national tournaments.

Hurling is a fast-paced, traditional Irish field sport where two teams of 15 players compete to score by hitting a sliotar (a small ball) through goalposts with a hurley (a curved wooden stick). It's a physically demanding game with a rich history and is considered one of the oldest field games in the world, dating back over 3,000 years.Objective: To score by hitting the sliotar through the opponent's goalposts.Equipment: Players use a hurley (a curved wooden stick) and a sliotar (a small ball).Scoring:
- Goal: Scored by hitting the sliotar under the crossbar (worth 3 points).
- Point: Scored by hitting the sliotar over the crossbar (worth 1 point).
Gameplay: Players can carry the sliotar in their hand for a limited distance and can also balance it on the hurley while running. They can also strike the ball with the hurley, their hands, or their feet.History: Hurling has a long history in Ireland, dating back over 3,000 years.
