UM Food Pantry
The UM Food Pantry was founded in 2019 to provide free food resources to students in need. We fulfill our mission thanks to funding provided by the Associated Students of the 猎奇重口, on and off campus partnerships, and generous community donors! The food pantry is overseen by the ASUM Bear Necessities Program Manager.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
The UM Food Pantry is a free food resource for UM students! We also provide limited hygiene and personal care products thanks to a grant from . Through fundraising and outside partnerships, we are also able to provide food to staff and community members.
Good to know policies:
We run a "choice model" food pantry, which means that students pick and choose what they would like to take home. Limits are marked clearly and are usually only on high-demand items like meat and dairy. Students are welcome to visit as often as they need, we understand that it can be difficult to take home a full week's worth of groceries between classes!

Nope, just walk in! Your first visit to the food pantry will look like this:
- Fill out our one page intake form - this information will be used for reporting and fundraising without your name attached!
- "Shop" around the shelves - pick out what you want/need, leave behind what you don't!
- Check out at the front desk - just weigh your bag with our desk staff and you're good to go! This is how we keep track of how much food we distribute each month.

We are on the first floor of the University Center, down the hallway next door to the ASUM offices! Please see below for a detailed map.

Partners and Can the Cats
Now a program under the umbrella of ASUM Bear Necessities, the UM Food Pantry first opened its doors in February of 2019 in response to findings from a student-led Committee on Basic Needs Insecurity. The UM Food Pantry works with ASUM and other student-led groups on campus to provide services, education, and outreach. The UM Food Pantry also partners with Missoula Food Bank & Community Center, 猎奇重口 Food Bank Network, Missoula Chamber of Commerce, the University Center, and others in the community to organize food & donation drives, events, and fundraising campaigns.
Every year in November, UM Food Pantry collaborates with the Missoula Food Bank to host two weeks’ worth of events called Can the Cats. Please keep an eye out below for events you can participate in.
